Cheers for this list. I too hope it's a decent song.
I think you may have got the countries a bit muddled up. One Ratcat song you have done as SE which I am guessing should be for Roxette. Paula Abdul you have as IE and Mc Hammer as SE perhaps for Roxette again? There are probably more but they are the ones that caught my eye.
Btw, are The Simpsons (the band) American or British?? Is this another error?
Great list Nate! Such a disparity stevie isn't it! I freaked a friend of mine when he realised the change too Oh Nicki Mivag, Mivag, her rusty lady vag, would settle for One Direction instead of that hot reheated reconstituted jelly trunk! and anticipating American Idol's cancellation but couldn't handle her being the 1000th
There's been mention of the 1000's No. 1 going to someone who doesn't deserve it. Of course that's open to opinion. There will no doubt be someone who'll say whoever it is that they didn't deserve it.
Anyway I'm wondering if a record company (when we get close sometime in February or March next year) might save a particular song and try and use the 1000th thing as marketing point. So it could be anything from an well known star to an up and comer that they're trying to push at the time. It will be interesting though.
I can't see any hype happening over what will be the 1000th #1 single in Oz especially any hype by record companies.
The only thing I can see is there being a countdown of some sort honouring the top 1000 songs or a special airing some of the biggest #1s.
Whichever song is the 1000th it will get lucky as I am sure it will get a mention of some sort in newspapers and radio which most #1s don't get, and not because of who sings it but more so the fact it is the 1000th #1.
We're due for a good song to take the title because the songs that have scored the other hundredth honours have been ordinary and very average songs.
So right & true K8 & stevie, its somewhat exciting and I would definitely like to see rage air a special, of course covering the earlier hits would be somewhat difficult, though understanding how HQ rage try and keep their library, it would come off vvv well, was just watching High by Lighthouse Family last night and was thinking itd be a great acknowledgement or maybe the NF&SA.
K8 - Cool my mistake. Cool clip though, the animation shows it's age though.
Nation - Yeah that Rage idea would be cool. I wonder how many of the earlier songs they'd have clips for, probably not many. Even if they started around 1980 they'd have 500 odd songs. Now obviously that's too many for the show (especially as they NEVER touch the alternative Friday format). I also wonder with their alternative Triple J bias if this is a topic the producers would even want to do?.
I doubt Rage would do a special as they seemed to end their ties with ARIA back in 2006.
If anyone does a special it will be one of the Pay TV channels like MAX or Channel V.
However, they did an all time top 500 #1 countdown a few months back and included The Verve's "Drugs Don't Work" in it so I wouldn't hold my breath that they do a proper one.
A local radio station has informed me (I know one of the presenters) that they will be having a week long special and playing 5 or 10 of the best and memorable #1s per year in a few weeks time closer to when the 1000th single has reached.
Yeah their Triple J alternative angle seems to have completely taken over now which is such a shame IMO. I remember they used Video Hits as their excuse at the time for dropping the Top 50 Countdowns. I used to love when they did the year end ARIA countdowns Last edited:
I will confirm that RAGE will not do a special reguarding the #1's as they have infact severed all ties with ARIA as was stated earlier, however if and only if this feat happens around retro month the programers have hinted at maybe using the early Saturday morning slot to rifle through a 'best of' as part of said retro month.
The other reason they wouldn't do this is because they are currently still going through their 25th anniversary specials atm and they don't look like finishing till around March
Yeah I was quite down about the rage/ARIA divorce and realise that would nullify the idea of a playlist, would have been good to see maybe 50 songs per week on the Saturday night excepting JJJ/rage 50 etc over the last half of 2013 and was thinking ABC being ABC they would celebrate a milestone that won't be seen again until perhaps 2086 (another 73 years)? We do this with solar eclipses, why not music charts? Oh copyrights/capitalism/bureaucrappy -.-... surprised the Australian National Film & Sound Archive haven't done something
I don't really think it's just the copywrite issues that would actually prevent them from doing something like this, it'd be the actual man hours to put something like that together, 500+ clips is a big ask and I can tell you the ABC has the biggest archive of film clips in Australia, even after you count the idiots who decided it was a great idea to destroy some 200+ master recordings in the early 00's which included invaluable Countdown episodes. I've been demonstrating for a few years now along with a small group lobbying the ABC to make better use of their digital network and use it for things exactly like this, even old TOP 50 re-runs would be awesome!
I was unaware that there was an official break with ARIA. What was the issue?. Did ARIA ask for money or something?.
Anyway I've always felt the Triple J alternative bias has gone a bit too far on occasions. The last 25 years special they had covering (I think) 95-98 was almost entirely "alternative" clips. Now I know over 25 years this is what they've mostly played, but a few more mainstream clips here and there would have been nice. I hope the remaining specials have a little bit more of a mix of differing song genres, can't see it happening though
The 'official' explination of why RAGE ceased broadcasting the ARIA TOP 50 was to make way for a new morning breakfast TV show on the Saturday i.e Recovery/Fly TV kind of concept. Even though that really never eventuated. Personally I still believe money was the issue because I remember VH1 (or MTV) then began doing a similar thing soon after. Tbh i'm actually kind of glad it's no longer broadcast because could you imagine compiling a chart with songs these days using video as a format? A majority of it would be skipped anyway so it'd be pointless and don't get me started on the Glee/Voice would cause. Yeah I found the last section was very 'alternative' compared to the earlier segments but I guess that's what made JJJ/RAGE back then, gonna be very interesting to see the next two segments.
My understanding was ARIA licensed the chart off to Motorola as the exclusive reproducer for their chart therefore rage had to cease or be liable for breaking copyright though I wonder if rage just showed the top 50 without the top 50 label or numbering if it would be alright
The day isnt too far off when we could program our entire top 50s on YT
Ok, I see your logic but I'd imagine he'll get a boost when he's out in the country much like what we're seeing with Taylor Swift at present. Not a #1 hit. Maybe his album will go back to #1 if their isn't much competition around.
I see Ed rising next week (possibly to #8) but then making his way down the chart the week after and hanging steady around the 11-15 region like we're seeing with Ke$ha.
Here's what I think will be the 1000th: Saved In A Bottle - The Potbelleez Artpop lead single Nicki Minaj next single Calvin Harris next single Guy Sebastian next single Samantha Jade next single 22 - Taylor Swift Sam And The Womp next single Harlem Shake - Baauer Last edited:
Okay... have been thinking. If Scream & Shout knocks Thrift Shop off #1 this week, and then Same Love knocks S&S off next week as it most probably will... Suit & Tie isn't quite #1 on iTunes yet, but Same Love is... so not sure if S&T will make it to #1, it might hold at #2 for weeks on end.
So there's our 998 and 999... but #1000 is a mystery... can't see anything else on the chart making such an impact now to rise so quickly to take the #1 spot.
Perhaps Beyonce's new single for the Superbowl, especially if it features Justin and Jay-Z like rumored.
May you please let your very good song - Just Give Me A Reason ft. Nate Ruess - drop from the number 1 position on our charts, I would greatly appreciate this as Robyn Rihanna Fenty has not had a number 1 single since S&M over two years ago. You had a number 1 in July 2012 and it is greedy to not let Robyn have the spot for at least 1 week.
Matty D, Baauer's label probs wanted a #1 debut and Bingo Players have dropped from #2 to #10 in the last 2 weeks. If Baauer doesn't chart it'll probably by BYB, Stay, FTM, hey Porsche or Can't Hold Us.
