Forum - General: Music Videos related - Music Documentaries

The past few years I have been watching quite a few music documentaries, so below are a list of the ones I have seen and recommend.

Moonage Daydream (David Bowie; his visual works)

Rebel Dread (about Don Letts early videographer, later B.A.D. member)

Hans Zimmer (composer)

Anthems: New Zealand's Iconic Hits (6-part series)

Jose Feliciano: Behind this Guitar (a look at the blind guitarists life)

Rip it Up (three-part Scottish Music history doco)

David Bowie: Out of This World (his persona's doco)

Woman Who Rock (4-part doco)

Don McLean - The Day the Music Died (about American Pie the song)

Elvis & The USS Arizona (how Elvis helped to get recognition for this Pearl harbour victim)

My Life as a Rolling Stone (4 Part series {no Bill Wyman though})

Bobby Brown Biography (4-part series from New Edition to Whitney & beyond)

Blondie - Parallel Lines (about the recording of the album)

Music's Greatest Mysteries Season 2 (6-part series)

Gone Before Her Time (female singers who passed early in their careers)

Mr A & Mr M (2-part about the founding of A&M Records)

Janet Jackson (4-part series)

The Beatles Get Back (3-part series)

The Sparks Brothers (about the group The Sparks)

pending to watch are doco's about:
Dionne Warwick
Sheryl Crow
Sinead O'Conner
Spector (Phil; I'm only halfway through this 4-part series so far)

Anyone got any recommendations for other music doco's

There is a great Netflix music documentary series This is Pop. Covers all sorts of things, Boys II Men, country music, Scandinavian pop music producers, Brit-pop, auto-tune and more!
Agreed on This Is Pop - was going to recommend the Auto-Tune episode specifically as it was really well done!

I’ve been meaning to dive into Hip Hop Evolution on Netflix as well, looks very interesting
Had not heard of This Is Pop so thank you both for the recommendation
SBS/Vice's The Story Of series was a great spotlight on one-hit wonders of the 00s

https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/tv-series/the-story-of

Shaggy - It Wasn't Me
Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee)
Darude - Sandstorm & Kernkraft 400
Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag
Baha Men - Who Let the Dogs Out
Sisqo - Thong Song
Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles
Papa Roach - Last Resort
There's a couple of other 'the story of' videos on youtoob that may be of interest featuring:

Afroman - Because I Got High
Linkin Park - In The End
Natasha Beddingfield - Unwritten
Almost one year after this initial thread, here's a list of what I've seen in the past year, Music doco-wise.

Milli Vanilli
When Metal Ruled the 80's (4 parts)
Madonna & The Breakfast Club (Madge's early years)
Public Image is Rotten
Rolf - Hiding in Plain Site
Black Pop
Popmaster (UK chart/music quiz show)
Wham: Echoes from the Edge of Heaven
Donna Summer: Love to Love You (this had a few timeline holes in it)
The Stones and Brian Hones (their early years)
Aaron Carter
Ed Sheeran: The Sum of it All
Britpop (90's UK scene, 4-part series)
John Waite
George Michael Outed
Spice Girls: How Girl Power changed Britain
Fight the Power: How Hip-Hop Changed the World
Hip Hop Homicides
Stock, Aitken & Waterman
Sometimes When We Touch: The Rise of Yacht Rock
Madonna at the BBC
Sinead O'Connor: Nothing Compares

And I just got the new Robbie Williams four-part series today, so that's the weekend's viewing sorted.
^^I've seen the VICE "Story of" one featuring Eiffel 65, that was pretty good and I should check out some more of that series.

Other than that I would also recommend the Foo Fighters' 8-part Sonic Highways series as a really nice overview of different cities in the US and their musical history. It honestly doesn't matter if you like the band or not, because it's mostly about the music scenes of the various cities featured and how they each developed their own styles.

There was also a documentary I found on YT about the infamous Norwegian black metal band Mayhem which I thought was fascinating, but it's also pretty dark subject matter and definitely not for everyone.
