Forum - General: Forum Games - Name That Aussie Tune

Firstly, this is not a Forum Game but is a trivia game so if anyone is looking for a game to play with mates this Australia Day then you might like to check out this game that was custom made for an Australia Day event this weekend. I know the person who created the game and gave some input as to what songs/artists to include.

The game has 6 rounds consisting of 12 songs in each round and named using Aussie slang and alliteration but in a nutshell the rounds are:
1. Iconic Aussie Songs
2. Male artists (this includes duos)
3. Female artists
4. Bands
5. Guilty Pleasures/Songs You Like but won't admit to people you like it
6. Songs that went #1 on the Aussie charts

Note: A song like Merril Bainbridge's "Mouth" could go in 3 of the above categories . Where Deni Hines who is a featured artist with her song "That Word (LOVE)" could really only fit in 2 of the above categories and they were 2 categories that had to be culled so despite Deni Hines currently being on I'm A Celebrity it was actually hard to fit her music in.

The game plays a 5 second snippet of each song and can be played however you want. For example:
Option 1: 1 point for correct song title
Option 2: 1 point for correct artist
Option 3: 1 point for either correct song title or artist
Option 4: 1 point for correct song title and 1 point for correct artist
or any other way you may wish to play and calculate points is up to you.

A lot of thought was made with the songs inlcuded but realistically not every Australian band could be included and some great bands that were shortlisted needed to be culled and I will say there is a questionable/odd inclusion in one of the rounds but please take into account this was included to make the round not all by the one gender.

I was at a trivia game a few nights where this was being played for the first time and the comments I kept hearing included:
"wow, i haven't heard this in years" or "what a blast from the past/trip down memory lane" or "i used to love this song and played it all the time" or "omg, i remember this song".

Other songs had people bopping and provided a great buzz. This was why one song was included and replaced a Delta Goodrem song whose song didn't have the same energy.

There is a slow song in one category and after the snippet of the song was played the host gave a hint to help teams by saying that "the surname of this artist is an animal." Some teams got it after the hint! Another team was listing all different animals trying to figure out the answer. If only they considered ocean animals and not just land ones they might have got the answer in the end!

Another song in the band category has proven to be a great inclusion as people get excited when it plays with comments being made "what a great tune" or "such an under-rated band!" One guy even went to the host and said this song was the first song he and his now wife had their first kiss at a school disco almost 40 years ago and was their song for their first dance at their wedding.

The songs included in this game range from I believe the 1960’s to more recent songs released in the 2020’s. It is important to note that overall people weren’t familiar with older songs so there isn’t as much representation from the 60’s and 70’s compared to the 90’s and 00’s.

There are 72 songs in this game with no artist featured more than one time. Some of the featured artists include: AC/DC, INXS, Kylie, Sia, Missy Higgins, Men At Work, John Farnham, Cold Chisel, Skyhooks, Jet, Peter Allen, Silverchair, Hilltop Hoods, Icehouse, Divinyls to name a few. Even Merril Bainbridge made it on the game and there are a few others on there to provide some lols.

Anyway, permission was given for the game to be available for others to purchase if they wish to and can be found on Etsy website and in the sellers store so if you are looking for some fun and a bit of a laugh this Australia day then this could be some fun for you!

More info about the game is on the Etsy website. I will post the link below however, I am not sure posting links is allowed on this site so if that fails and you are interested in the game search “Name That Aussie Tune” on the Etsy website.

I saw the game being played a few nights back and as I mentioned with some of the comments I heard people really enjoyed it as it was something new and different. This was confirmed after hearing feedback from someone saying “that was a lot of fun!” at the end of the game. I know the game was played again today and although I wasn’t there to see it, I have heard the game was a lot of fun! I also tested the game and played the game with my family and my brother who is a trivia nut was a team of 1 against a team of 8 (ages ranging from 12 to 75) and he still won. Apart from a few of the recent inclusions that he wasn’t familiar with he managed to get everything else correct. The team of 8 were yelling at themselves during the answer reveal as they knew most of the answers they had missed. They had a hard time providing a correct answer and left a few blanks. Anyway, have fun and enjoy!
