Better than Set It Off upon first listen but this is still oh so generic and average. I guess there were some moments where it sounded promising.

With this release, I find that he exhibits a lack of progress as an artist. "Set It Off" could have been seen as a one-off piece to attract attention to his real triumph, but with "If Looks Could Kill" it seems that instead of attempting to pass his contemporaries, he's satisfied with releasing safe material. While this reduces the risk of alienating potential fans, as an artistic statement, it's rather poor. 2.5

This was written as a dare of sorts, not to sound pretentious :P

Edit: Actually, this isn't all that bad in hindsight. I mean it's generic and all that, but it's got that happy vibe, (I suspect it's due to the minor piano at the start of the chorus, like it is for every other song :P). I can tolerate this more than Set It Off.

Glad to see him adding to an already menacing set list.

A bit of a poor follow up from Set It Off.

I'm seriously confused with the intentions of Timomatic in this song. He is implying that if looks could kill, that he would basically die, so he asks 'her' to look at him, implying the he wants to die. WTF?

But he knows how to dance.

Love it! On par with Set It Off.

6 -> 4.5*.

Average song.

Totally shithouse. While Set It Off also sucked ass, at least I could see why it'd be a successful party song for people who like that crap, this one is just too dull for that really.
**
Same old, same old.
**
Crap but better than Set It Off.
****
Okay - somehow better than Set It Off.

Genuine high-tempo pop/club track. Timomatic puts more effort into this song, but without overdoing it. Thumping beat. Easily the best of his first 3 singles.
****
As cliche as they come, but it's so damn catchy! Much better than Set It Off.
**
Slightly better than 'Set It Off' but he's no Michael Jackson.

I like this more than Set It Off. Imo it is really catchy.

Not great; slightly better than Set If Off.

More generic shit the charts just doesn't, and at the time this was a hit, didn't need.

I don't like this song one bit. It's incredibly awful in my opinion.

He wants everybody of all ages to sing along to a song that's sexy and dark? Not your finest idea, Mr Omaji. Thankfully most of us mortals probably aren't capable of processing his lyrical expertise anyway, so it's all good. His love-murder metaphors exhibit far more sophistication than any of his contemporaries have ever presented, and I just can't fault him for that. DNA did a great job on the production here too, the way this song builds up from a simple midtempo to heavy dance-pop shows that it could have been done in any genre or style without losing any of its appeal. However as happy as I am for his deserved success, I wish he wasn't so beloved that radio has to play his songs so much as I'm still very tired of "If Looks Could Kill"'s chorus following last year's overplay.

Average track.

Average. Not as good as the preceding and succeeding singles.
